Register today for the 15th annual Kelvin Norman Memorial Tournament from June 7th to June 9th, 2024 hosted by Colorado Rapids Youth Soccer! In 2023 we welcomed teams from across the region, including Texas, New Mexico, Kansas, Wyoming, and more!
The Kelvin Norman tournament serves as the last hurrah for Colorado clubs looking for a competition to close out the Spring season featuring teams from across the western United States. The tournament is open to ALL Boys and Girls rec & competitive teams, ages 9U to 19U.

The 2024 Kelvin Norman Memorial Tournament falls just before your teams head off for summer vacation and is an ideal post-season Spring competition for all competitive teams!

Teams should register and play according to the 2024 Spring season. We will follow US Soccer’s Age Group Guidelines based on birth year. This event is hosted at one facility at Aurora Sports Park.
- GOLD DIVISIONS – CSA Champions League Teams (P1-P3)
- SILVER DIVISIONS – CSA Elite, Platinum, and Gold Teams
- BRONZE DIVISIONS – CSA Silver, Bronze, and Recreational Teams
Early Bird Registration:
- Early Registration will end at 11:59 PM on May 10th, 2024
- All registrations started AFTER 12:00 AM on May 11th will have a $100 late fee assessed.
Acceptance Process:
- The tournament application will open on November 1st, 2023.
- Acceptances will begin on December 1st, 2023.
- If your team is traveling for this event, please reach out directly to check the status of your application. We can accommodate early acceptances for traveling teams to help them plan their trips by accepting teams sooner.
Payment Process:
- Your card has been stored on file along with your application.
- Your card is NOT charged when you complete your registration.
- Payment is NOT processed when you register or are accepted.
- Teams can pay their own fees online through the following steps:
- Log into GotSport and click on “Team Management” then “Registrations.”
- In “Registrations,” click on the team name next to “Kelvin Norman – 2024.”
- At the top of the registration pop-up, click on “Billing.”
- In “Billing,” click on “Pay Now” next to “TOTAL BALANCE.”
- All payments MUST be completed before June 1st, 2024!
- Any unpaid fees will be charged to the card on file on June 1st, 2024.
Bracket & Schedule Information
Tournament Bracket Release:

- Brackets will be released to teams on May 19th or 20th, 2024
- Placement will be based on the questions you answered in the application as well as your GotSoccer ranking and league standings.
- Please ensure to answer all questions HONESTLY and ACCURATELY.
How Do We Rank & Bracket Teams?
-
- Once registration is closed, teams in each age group are researched extensively are ranked numerically, starting with 1.
- Rankings are based on:
- The difficulty of your League Schedule (I.e. what division you are in)
- Most recent League Standings & Records (I.e. how well you did in that league)
- Future team placement by CSA (I.e. if CSA is moving you up or down)
- League Goal Differential (I.e. Helps differentiate teams in similar league standing)
- Questions answered within our Application Process
- The “Soccer Rankings” app will be used as a final cross-reference for team placement based on their team ratings composed from over 400 soccer databases.
- Once rankings are complete, teams are seeded in groups based on their rankings in a “Snake” placement order.
- 6-Team Group Example: Group A = 1, 4, & 5 | Group B = 2, 3, & 6
- 8-Team Group Example: Group A = 1, 4, 5, & 8 | Group B = 2, 3, 6, & 7
- This is the standard ranking procedure for top youth sports tournaments across the country.
- Tournament Schedules:
- Schedules will be released to teams on or before May 24th, 2024.
- Teams should play to avoid any scheduled activities throughout this weekend.
- FRIDAY: SOME local teams may have games on Friday between 5:30 PM and 9:00 PM. There may not be games on Friday, depending on the number of registrants.
- SATURDAY: ALL teams should anticipate 1 (If you played on Friday) or 2 games between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM
- SUNDAY: ALL teams should expect to play at least 1 game between 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM
- SUNDAY FINALS: Finals will start around 12:00 PM and will conclude before 4:30 PM, depending on which division you are in.

Due to the update to the GotSport system, we have a better way to certify rosters and check teams that will save time and effort for team managers, administrators, and tournament staff alike. If you have any questions, please reach out to [email protected].
Rapids South and Rapids Central competitive teams will have Club Admins complete your roster verification process. You WILL still need to Check In!*
Documentation Uploading & Approval Process:
- Upload Your PDF Documents into your GotSport Registration.
- Build a roster for your team in GotSport’s Roster Builder.
- All teams must build their roster within the GotSport Roster Builder located in your team’s Event Roster tab in your GotSport Account.
- You can add and subtract players, coaches, etc., through this system.

- Wait For Your Approved Roster to Be Approved & Emailed to you!
- Once you have uploaded the roster, Tournament Staff will approve rosters.
- Once verified, it will be given an “Official Stamp of Approval” and emailed to your team’s coach, manager, and other staff listed.
- Print FOUR (4) Copies of the Official Approved Roster for Check-In onsite.
- Before your first match, you must check in at the “Check-In Tent” at your facility, where you will play your first game.
- Staff will collect ONE of your PRINTED approved rosters
- Staff will return THREE of your approved rotors that you will give to the referees prior to each match.
- You will need to show proof of access to all forms via electronic access (PDFS in Google Drive, Via email, etc.)
- ID Cards (If the roster does not have pictures), Med Forms, & Guest Forms
- Save PDF files to your phone! (Google Drive, Apple Files Drive, Etc.)
Roster Checks Before Games:
- Referees will check your approved, verified roster (PDF or Printed)
- The referee WILL do a roster check before the kick-off of each match.
- If there are any disputes in regard to player eligibility or roster eligibility, the referee will use the provided roster to compare with the Tournament’s approved roster.
Roster Uploading Timeline:
- Roster Deadline: May 23rd, 2024
- Rosters must be completed and built in GotSport by this date.
- Referees will cross-reference the GotSport Game Card with rosters printed on them with your printed roster.
- If there are any disputes in regard to player eligibility or roster eligibility, the referee will use the provided roster to compare with the GotSport Game Card roster.
Check-In Requirements:
- At Check-In, you will need to bring:
- Tournament-Approved Roster With Approval Stamp – FOUR PRINTED COPIES
- Player ID Cards (PDF) (*If your roster does NOT have pictures on it*)
- Medical Forms (PDF)
- Guest player forms (PDF)
Check-In Process:
- All teams MUST check-in 1 hour prior to their first game’s start time.
- One team representative (Coach or Manager) must verbally agree to the roster agreement when you check in, confirming your roster is age-eligible, and any discrepancies in the roster throughout the event will subject to immediate removal from the event without refund.
- At check-in, you MUST show proof of:
- Guest player forms (Digital form preferred)
- Medical forms (Digital form preferred)
- Digital Form = PDF, etc.
Check-In Expectations:
- In no event will a player be allowed to participate who has not been certified by the Rapids Tournament Staff Credentials Committee.
- Once play has started in the first scheduled game, no players may be added to the roster for the remainder of the tournament.
Tournament officials approve all team rosters and eligible players. Proof of team check-in with the tournament will be visible on the team’s tournament roster. Referees will not review individual player credentials prior to each game, referees will perform a safety/equipment check-in. Referees will inquire with tournament staff if there are any questions regarding player eligibility.

Weather, External Conditions, and Cancellations
Regardless of weather conditions (unless for safety reasons), players and coaches must be on the field at the scheduled time, ready to play. The Tournament Director has the authority to reduce the length of matches due to weather conditions before the start of a match; all such matches will be considered official. The Tournament Director may also reschedule (time and location) a match before it begins. Only referees or the Site Director can suspend a match already started due to weather conditions. All matches that reach halftime will be considered final per the Tournament Director. i.e. 1 second into 2nd half and the home team leads 1:0, lighting strikes, game is considered over.
Severe Weather in Area:
- Should a storm begin to threaten the event, state-of-the-art radar will be used to determine the distance of the storm and any strikes of lightning that may be within a 10-mile radius.
- Should there be a lightning strike within said 10-mile radius, games will be temporarily stopped and teams must return to their cars.
- A “Waiting Time” of 30 minutes without a strike of lightning must be observed before the teams can safely return to the facility.
- If the “Waiting Time” exceeds 60 minutes, games will be ended at their time of stoppage if more than 60% of the game has been completed.
- If less than 60% of the game has been completed, the Tournament Director has authority to reschedule the game to a new time or cancel the game and award points based on a points averaging scale.
Cancellation Refund Agreement:
- For a tournament in progress (dates of planned event), in the event of rain, snow or acts of God, the tournament director reserves the right to reduce game times and numbers of games.
- Refund Structure is as follows:
- 100% refund – if the tournament is canceled in its entirety due to COVID-19.
- 80% refund – if the event is canceled entirely due to weather, or any other external forces.
- 60% refund – If only 1 game is played of the 3 guaranteed games.
- 30% refund – If only 2 games are played of the 3 guaranteed games.
- No refund is given if:
- A team withdraws within 30 days prior to the tournament.
- a team decides to forfeit a game, giving them less than the guaranteed minimum of played games.
- The team withdraws to play in another tournament.
Colorado Air Quality Monitoring:
- Due to the danger of forest fires, referee assignors on site will monitor the air pollution levels if necessary.
- Should levels rise to 125, referees will instill water breaks and staff will actively monitor the Air Quality situation.
- Should levels rise to 150 or higher, games may be shortened by up to 10 minutes per half.
- Should levels rise to 200 or higher, games will be canceled on the spot and attempted to be rescheduled.

Colorado Air Quality Monitoring:
- Due to the danger of forest fires, referee assignors on site will monitor the air pollution levels if necessary.
- Should levels rise to 125, referees will instill water breaks and staff will actively monitor the Air Quality situation.
- Should levels rise to 150 or higher, games may be shortened by up to 10 minutes per half.
- Should levels rise to 200 or higher, games will be canceled on the spot and attempted to be rescheduled.

Roster Requirements & Forms
Roster Requirements:
- All teams and players are to register by Calendar Year.
- Example – Spring 2023 Season 2008’s = U15
- Every competitive team 9U – 19U is required to complete a roster within GotSport 2.0.

- Every recreational team 9U – 19U is required to provide a club-verified copy of their roster.

- The roster must be 70% or more of your original players and up to 30% of guest players for the age group roster MAX.
- For example, for U13-U19 the roster max is 19, so 19 x .3 = 5.7 thus rounding up to 6 MAX guest players allowed.
- Certain circumstances can be approved based on requests to tournament staff.

Refund Policy
Cancellation Refund Agreement:
- For a tournament in progress (dates of the planned event), in the event of rain, snow or acts of God, the tournament director reserves the right to reduce game times and numbers of games.
- Should there be any cancellations creating a difference in games played in a division, all scoring will transition to “Points Per Game” average for those divisions.
- Games cancelled early will have a score stand if more than 50% of the 1st half minutes are played.
- Refund Structure is as follows:
- 100% refund – if the tournament is canceled in its entirety due to COVID-19.
- 80% refund – if the event is canceled entirely due to weather, or any other external forces.
- 60% refund – If only 1 game is played of the 3 guaranteed games.
- 30% refund – If only 2 games are played of the 3 guaranteed games.

Where will the tournament games be located?
The tournament will be held at Aurora Sports Park North, West, and East Campus’.

When will teams be notified if they are accepted?
Teams will begin seeing acceptance notifications in early spring (March-April). Acceptances will cease and registration will close 3 weeks before the event date.
How many games are guaranteed?
Every team is guaranteed three games.
When will schedules be posted?
Schedules will be sent out no later than 14 days (2 weeks) prior to tournament kickoff. Schedules can be found on GotSoccer OR at the top of this web page.
What is the point system for this tournament?
Scoring
The following points are allotted per instance:
-
SIX points for a win;
-
THREE points for a tie;
-
ZERO points for a loss;
-
Minus one (-1) point for each red card issued to a player, coach or parent; and
-
Minus two (-2) points for a forfeiture or abandonment of a game.
Determination of Group Winners
In group play, there will be no overtime games. Standings in a group will be determined by game points:

Win: 6 points

Tie: 3 point

Loss: 0 points

Goals: 1 point for each goal up to 3 goals

1 point for shut out except for 0-0
In the event that two or more teams are tied in points at the end of the preliminary games, the following tie breakers shall be applied in the order given until a winner is determined:

Forfeits
For U11-U18 matches a minimum of seven (7) players constitutes a game. Games should start at the given start time. In case the team does not have seven (7) players present, there will be a maximum of five (5) minutes grace period before awarding the game to the opponent. A forfeit will be scored 3-0.
How can I find out the scores and standings?
All scores are entered and updated immediately online as soon as game cards are received. The scores for the final game of the day will be entered within 2 hours of the score being received. All flights and playoff games for day 2 of the tournament will be updated online 2 hours following the final game on day 1. The website will be the most up-to-date and accurate information for scores and standings.
Will there be finals for all flights?

4 team bracket – Round robin with the top 2 teams playing in a championship.

5 team bracket – Round robin with highest point team as champion.

6 team bracket – Two 3-team groups with the top team from each playing in a cross-bracket championship and a cross-bracket consolation game.

8 team bracket – Two 4-team groups with the top team from each playing in a championship game
Who will be receiving medals and trophies?
- First Place:
- Teams will receive a “Champions” medal for each player and coach and 1 “Champion” trophy per team.
- Second Place:
- Teams will receive a “Finalist” medal for each player and coach.
- Championship Photo Shoots:
- Teams will be given a “Champions Banner” and be able to take pictures on the field or at the designated photo area at your facility after the match.
